UN SDG 4

Education beyond 2030

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals adopted by all UN Member States in 2015 as a shared blueprint for peace, prosperity, and environmental sustainability by 2030. They cover issues such as poverty, health, education, climate action, gender equality, and more, and they guide policies and actions worldwide.

SDG4 – Quality Education focuses on ensuring inclusive, equitable and quality education for all, and promoting lifelong learning opportunities. It is about more than access to school: it also addresses learning outcomes, relevant skills for life and work, safe and inclusive learning environments, and education that supports sustainable development and global citizenship.

The Media Education Centre fully supports SDG4 and actively engages in shaping the future of education through the initiative “Education beyond 2030: Global youth and student consultations to shape the future education agenda”.

This initiative recognises that young people are directly affected by education policies and will live with the consequences of today’s decisions long into the future. For that reason, we must place their perspectives at the heart of planning what education should look like after 2030.

The youth consultation lays the foundation for a Youth Agenda on Education Beyond 2030. It is designed to ensure that the ideas, expectations, and priorities of young people are meaningfully included when defining the next global education goals. By gathering input from youth across all regions, the process will help indicate the direction that governments, institutions, and societies should take in rethinking education for the next era.

A global survey, complemented by consultation meetings, invites young people and youth organisations worldwide to share their views on three main themes:

  1. Their vision and aspirations for the world beyond 2030.
  2. The changes they want to see in education and learning, so that education better responds to their realities and future challenges.
  3. The actions they are personally ready to take to help achieve these changes.

The survey is open until 20 September 2026, giving young people around the world the opportunity to influence how education will evolve in the years after 2030.
