MEC25: Empowering People, Connecting Communities, Transforming Futures

Two Milestones, One Mission: ECOSOC at 80 and MEC at 25 for a More Inclusive World
As the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) prepares to celebrate its 80th anniversary in January 2026, the Media Education Centre proudly marks 25 years of empowering people, strengthening communities, and promoting digital and media literacy for all generations. These two milestones share a common purpose: advancing dignity, equality, solidarity, and sustainable development in an increasingly interconnected world.
For eight decades, ECOSOC has united governments, civil society, youth, and more than 6,500 NGOs to promote human rights, cooperation, and inclusive development. Its legacy inspires our work today—especially as we focus on reconciliation, digital inclusion, and the right to development.
In this spirit, the Media Education Centre is preparing two major events for 2026:
1. “Peace, Education for Reconciliation, Digital Inclusion and the Right to Development” – Belgrade Conference This gathering will bring together educators, civil society leaders, digital innovators, and policymakers to explore how education and digital inclusion can support reconciliation, social cohesion, and sustainable development. Our goal is to create a constructive space for dialogue and shared solutions that strengthen communities and promote peace.
2. All Digital Summit: “The Contribution of Digitalisation to Europe’s Competitiveness” As Europe navigates rapid technological change, this summit will examine how digitalisation can enhance competitiveness while ensuring that no one is left behind. We believe that digital transformation must serve people—supporting wellbeing, participation, and equal opportunities across all generations.
Together, these initiatives reflect our commitment to building a more inclusive, resilient, and forward‑looking society. As ECOSOC turns 80 and MEC turns 25, we reaffirm our shared mission: empowering individuals, connecting communities, and transforming futures through education, dialogue, and digital inclusion.
