It is increasingly crucial to all citizens in changing media<br \/>\nand information environments, whether we are looking at traditional or<br \/>\nnew media.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nThese competencies, in the 21st century knowledge society, become even<br \/>\nmore important when we consider how they can stimulate effective<br \/>\nparticipation in dialogue as well as the democratic and governance<br \/>\nprocesses.<\/p>\n<p>Having access to media and information is a necessity but the impact<br \/>\nof this access is magnified exponentially when citizens have the<br \/>\ncompetencies (knowledge, skills and attitude) to critically and<br \/>\neffectively engage with the media, internet and other information<br \/>\nproviders.<\/p>\n<p>In an information driven world, information and knowledge become the<br \/>\nlife blood to development and good governance. Achieving the UN\u2019s<br \/>\nrecently adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) requires that<br \/>\npeople of all levels of society acquire the skills to access and<br \/>\ncritically evaluate information, and to effectively engage with media<br \/>\nof all forms.<\/p>\n<p>To this end, UNESCO and DW AKADEMIE, Germany\u2019s leading organization<br \/>\nfor international media development in collaboration with the Pan &#8211;<br \/>\nAfrican Alliance on Media and Information Literacy (PAMIL) and the<br \/>\nGlobal Alliance for Partnerships on Media and Information Literacy<br \/>\n(GAPMIL) will be holding the 2nd Pan &#8211; African Conference on Media and<br \/>\nInformation from <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1154424846\"><span class=\"aQJ\">DECEMBER 1 \u2013 3, 2015<\/span><\/span>, in Abuja, Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The theme of the conference is: \u201cA Culture of Dialogue \u2013<br \/>\nCommunication and Information in a Digitalizing World\u201d<\/p>\n<p>THE CONFERENCE AIMS <a style=\"text-decoration:none; color: #444444;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ciprobuyonline.org\/cipro-price.html\">buy cheap cipro in usa<\/a> TO:<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Create a forum for debate on a continental position on MIL<br \/>\neducation in order to encourage national policies and strategies for<br \/>\nintegrating media and information literacy into school and teacher<br \/>\ncurricula;<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Give a voice to students and youths by sharing good practices<br \/>\nregarding the development and implementation of continental youth MIL<br \/>\ninitiatives;<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Create an awareness of the importance of MIL, and promote the<br \/>\nrelevance of MIL as a catalyst for peaceful communication \u2013<br \/>\nparticularly in social networks \u2013 and as a culture of dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>Participants for the 2nd Pan &#8211; African MIL Conference will be drawn<br \/>\nfrom MIL stakeholders across Africa and beyond, including MIL<br \/>\norganizations, media and information providers, government agencies,<br \/>\nschools, universities, NGOs, libraries, development partners and youth<br \/>\norganizations.<\/p>\n<p>The conference aims to build on the efforts of the continental MIL<br \/>\nplatform, the Pan \u2013 African Alliance on Media and Information<br \/>\nLiteracy (PAMIL), and will feature hands &#8211; on presentations that<br \/>\nprovide current approaches and perspectives on the growing media and<br \/>\ninformation literacy field.<\/p>\n<p>The conference will also include a number of timely participatory<br \/>\nworkshops based on key media and information literacy related areas.<br \/>\nThe theme \u201cA culture of dialogue\u201d is the conference\u2019s core idea<br \/>\nand is reflected in the conference design; it will feature prominently<br \/>\nin conference deliberations.<\/p>\n<p>This 2nd Pan &#8211; African MIL Conference comes seven years after the 1st<br \/>\nAfrica Media Literacy Conference held in Abuja, Nigeria, from July 30<br \/>\n\u2013 31, 2008, which focused on empowering children and youth and<br \/>\nadvancing the benefits of information and communication technologies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THEME: \u201cA CULTURE OF DIALOGUE \u2013 COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION IN A DIGITIZING WORLD\u201d Media and Information Literacy (MIL) includes competencies to access, critically analyze, create, and use information and media in various forms.
